Our buddy Kenneth Paschal (R-Pelham) is feeling the love from the Alabama Farmers Federation, who've officially endorsed him for re-election in House District 73! That covers bits of Pelham, Alabaster, Helena, and Montevallo.

A Farmer's Heart

John Deloach, head honcho of the Shelby County Farmers Federation, says Paschal's got the farming know-how. He mentioned that Paschal’s values are straight up solid! Deloach emphasized Paschal's farm roots give him an edge. "We know he'll keep fighting for us in Montgomery!" he said.

Service Above All

This guy's got a serious resume! Before politics, Paschal served 21 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a First Sergeant. Now, he's a big player on the House Military and Veterans Affairs Committee. Plus, he's involved in education policy, elections stuff, and even the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission's Alabama crew!

Committed to the Land

Paschal's stoked about the farmers' support. "Agriculture is everything in Alabama," he said, promising to defend their rights and protect their land.

Paschal chills in Pelham, goes to First Baptist Church there, and is a proud dad. The Alabama Farmers Federation, huge in the state, backs candidates through Alabama FarmPAC, listening to local Federation leaders.

Sweet Home Alabama! Space Command Returns to Huntsville!

Hold onto your hats, ChumCity folks! Alabama's celebrating a HUGE win! Senator Katie Britt is practically doing cartwheels (okay, maybe not, but she's THRILLED!) after the announcement that Space Command is officially coming back to Huntsville!

Britt didn't hold back her excitement, saying this move will be amazing for the community, small businesses, and the whole darn state. She believes Huntsville will show America what it's truly made of.

Colorado's Got the Blues

Of course, not everyone's popping champagne. Colorado, where Space Command was headed, is throwing a bit of a fit. Their Attorney General is even threatening legal action! Talk about sore losers!

Britt, ever the smooth operator, compared the situation to a football game. "Bad call on the field? Review booth! Overturned!" She reminded everyone that Trump held a competition, and guess who won? That's right, Alabama!

Britt Slams Biden's Previous Decision

Britt didn't mince words about the Biden Administration's 2023 decision to send Space Command to Colorado Springs, questioning if Biden even knew what was going on. She suggested politics might have played a role, hinting at favoritism towards a "blue state." Ouch!

Optimism for the Future

But let's not dwell on the past. Britt's all about the future now, and she's super optimistic about Space Command's future in Huntsville. She emphasized that this is about national security and supporting our warfighters.

According to Britt, placing Space Command alongside the incredible work already happening at Redstone Arsenal is a game-changer. She believes 21st-century warfare will largely take place in space, and having that connectivity right here in Alabama is a HUGE advantage for our state. Go Alabama!

Hold onto your helmets, ChumCity citizens! The U.S. Space Command headquarters location is causing some serious cosmic chaos, and Huntsville's right in the middle of it!

The Presidential Decree

Remember when President Trump declared Huntsville the future home of Space Command? Well, some folks in Colorado are not thrilled. Governor Jared Polis even griped on X, saying moving Space Command weakens national security and wastes our tax dollars!

Strong's Response: Game On!

But U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville) isn't backing down. He's basically saying, "If Colorado doesn't want 'em, we'll take 'em!" Strong insists Alabama has plenty of qualified people eager to fill those roles.

Workforce Warriors

Strong even name-dropped a bunch of universities – Alabama, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State – practically guaranteeing they'll find the talent needed. Boom!

Dollars and Sense (and National Security)

Strong also emphasized that Huntsville makes financial sense. He cited studies showing it's way cheaper – like $426 million cheaper! – to set up shop in the Rocket City. Plus, he says Huntsville has the workforce, tech, and security to get the job done right.

Colorado's Complaints?

According to Strong, the Colorado crew is just sore losers, focusing on their own political woes instead of what's best for Space Command. He points to reports confirming Huntsville's advantages, from workforce to cost efficiency.

Moving Forward

Despite the out-of-state grumbling, Strong says his colleagues are ready to move forward and make Huntsville the undisputed center of the space universe. So, buckle up, ChumCity – things are about to get out of this world!

Remember that video of what looked like trash bags being tossed from a White House window? President Trump dismissed it, claiming the windows are bulletproof, sealed shut, and weigh a ton. This got us thinking...

Bulletproof Windows: An Alabama History Lesson

Before 1981, Alabama's Governor's office windows were just regular, thin glass. After the attempted assassination of Governor George Wallace in 1972, things changed. Steel plates were installed, making the office super secure, but also super dark.

Governor Fob James, Wallace's successor, wasn't a fan of the gloom. Steel plates blocked bullets AND sunlight. So, bulletproof glass was installed on the lower halves of the windows, "strong enough to withstand small arms fire," according to the security director. Fancy cameras and hidden alarms were added too.

Security Upgrades and Suspicions

Each bulletproof window cost a cool $4,030 back then (that's over $14,000 today!). They stayed until Governor Guy Hunt took office. Hunt surprised everyone by hiring his son, Keith (a carpenter and cattle farmer), as his security director.

Then came a major Capitol renovation. An Alabama Historical Commission employee accused Hunt and his son of demanding $2 million in unnecessary security upgrades, including even thicker bulletproof windows – strong enough to stop AK-47 rounds! These windows were so heavy, special steel casings were needed.

A Goat Hill Vantage Point and a Smoky Governor

Hunt claimed the U.S. Secret Service recommended the upgrades. But one official thought it was overkill, noting that only someone on a rooftop across the street could even possibly get a shot at the governor's office. And even that would be tough!

One security recommendation that didn't happen? A "12-foot-high iron-and-concrete fence" around the Capitol! Keith Hunt eventually resigned and went back to his cows and horses.

And while those White House windows might be sealed shut, I know for a fact the Governor's office windows in Alabama could open. As Governor Fob James' spokesman, I remember him throwing open the windows on nice days to let the smoke from his cigar drift out... security concerns be darned!
